Define/Design Looping |
It's a Recursive/Reentrant Iterative Process
Creation and development is a chaotic process. Seeing speaking as a performing art, approaches differ, not only speaker to speaker, but, at least for me, program to program. While the five steps I follow are shown in graphical form, my program development is usually less disciplined. |
1. Define |
2. Design |
I use a variety of creation/development techniques – storyboarding, mind mapping, sticky notes, flow charting, spontaneity and brute force – I find the key to successful development letting go and fulfilling the program's premise.
Program Premise: Once I know the program goal as set by my client – topic, length time of day, setting, their objective, format – I construct a program premise by completing the fillowing sentence stem:
"When I sign off from this program the audience will have experienced..."
From this I create a time line with details. |
1. Define | 2. Design | 3. Deliver | 4. Debrief | 5. Decompress
