Take a break whenever you're doing negative work.
Break Time!
Creating, delivering and debriefing a program is is a demanding master. In my experience, artists — remember, public speaking is an art — seem to work at a creative peak about four to five hours daily. Yes, we're all different and must find our zone, yet I am at my best for an hour or two, then a break. Continuing beyond that leads to negative work: that which, when done, is so poor it must be redone... better... a waste of time. Do what Elvis did, leave the building (the zone).
Then return, mind afresh; beverage refilled; ready for the next program.
There's nothing more to say on this. Know yourself. Work when creativity is flowing. Take a break when it's time. Enjoy the process. Be your best.
As I write this I recall a cartoon from long ago: Two explorers standing in a pool of quicksand; one up to his knees; the other up to his neck. The one up to his knees saying, "That's where struggling gets you." Relax. Do your best work. |
