Wrap it up with a showy bow before taking a bow
While a program closing's purpose can take many forms – a summary, a call to action, a reflection on how important it has been in the speaker's success and more – I am convinced it is the tap root, that part which anchors the effect. It deserves an appropriate emphasis and may be best delivered as a story revealing its significance.
Also, it is our final opportunity to convince the audience of the program's importance. While this description is brief, its importance cannot be overstated. Later, maybe years hence, an audience may remember what is said in these last few minutes. While every part is important I will spend more time preparing and practicing the closing than other parts. Its effect may be more enduring. |
