Pronunciation – Enunciation – Elocution – Cadence
Premise Yes, "what we say and how we say it" is a speaking essential. Still, all is for naught when audiences do not understand the words we offer. |
Essentials Pronunciation: Saying words correctly allows an audience to focus on our meaning. Mispronunciation is a program killing distraction. Enunciation: Saying words clearly, concisely, distinctly. Elocution: Delivering your message in an engaging style. Cadence: Speaking at a comfortable rate, including pauses, so your audience can think, feel and experience the meaning of your message. Exception: Mispronunciations, exaggerations, playing with words can add to a program, especially if you have a distinctive accent; e.g., the South, New York, another country. Some of the best emphasize theirs. |
