A whack on the head at the right time can improve your vision.

Passing through three stages into personal maturation an answered call can seem to be a personal endpoint. One's complete engagement in this, their apparent true quest, may lead to a more specific interest, a moving deeper into that questing life.

Being laid off from what I felt was the perfect job was a jolt. Breakfast with my best friend encouraged me to use my technical expertise as a consultant. I found my first assignment within a month. Another friend suggested I contact seminar companies to become a seminar leader. I contacted the top three and was added to the faculty of the one I thought best. I had moved from a perfect job as an employee to self-employment as a consultant and seminar leader. A new journey had begun.

In the 1980s, Bill Moyers interviewed a train-load of serious thinkers. Two books, A World of Ideas I & II, contain enough insight for a lifetime. Two have affected me deeply. The Joseph Campbell interviews which led to The Power of Myth, both a six hour video and separate volume, and his interview with Peter Drucker who stated simply, "Do what you're good at. Most people don't do what they're good at because they're raised to work hard and doing what we're good at isn't hard." (paraphrased)

What are you good at? If you don't know, I'll bet your friends do. What is it you do so well it comes easy? Can you increase it in your life? Is there a career in it?
