A mode for every place – A place for every mode.
Premise It is essential that everyone in your audience understand your message. |
Having your say your better way As a serious speaker – and an engineer's mindset – for more than sixty years, my approach to speaking is analytical and model oriented. Fear not, that's how I see structure, not program development and delivery. As a Bill Gove and Bob Murphey influenced speaker, I see speaking as a performing art with a primary goal of creating audience experiences where important insights can be discovered, affirmed, improved... theirs. Since everyone in the audience is an audience, I see the speaker's mission as encouraging serious thinking and feeling about the issues at hand with humor as a vital element, especially in the more serious presentations.
Exercise If you don't have a speaking buddy pair with somebody who wants to become a better speaker. Work to improve your speaking skills including these modes: wording, talking, telling, explaining, catalyzing.
Finally, what our audiences are thinking, feeling and revisiting is the key. |
