Becoming a Pro |
When someone asks me how to become a professional speaker, I say, "Consider the discriptors: professional (engaged in a profession), speaker (one who speaks. What's your profession and can you speak about it?)" It's that simple. All you need is a profession people are willing to pay to hear and an ability to speak about it that will draw a paying crowd.
If people will pay to hear what you have to say, take quick assessment:
On a scale of 1 to 10, what is your level of expertise in your profession? On a scale of 1 to 10, what is your level of speaking ability in your profession?
Calculation: Multiply the two numbers to determine your chances as a in percentage. (While this is unscientific, the score is an indicator of your potential and the individual numbers show where you can make your greatest improvement.)
The successful speaker I know score high on both factors and "...did it their way."
