Stage 6: Elder (65≈78) YT icon

When those you meet outside the Deep South call you Sir or Ma'am

When our work is done, our aim fulfilled, now retirement, whatever that is. We have traversed much of the traditional three score and ten. Time for a new stage, Elder. What now? Continue working? Return to school? Buy an RV? Volunteer? Whatever the choice, change is upon us. Eric Hoffer said it's a time to become either philosopher or malcontent depending on how we view our life to date.

I did neither. As an engineer by training and personality, I analyze everything, often to other's dismay. Sorry. With a plan to move to the Southwest when my wife retires, I marked those few years as a volunteer speaker at the juvenile detention center and filled in as a substitute teacher at a middle school. We took three trips to Colorado and New Mexico and chose Las Cruces, NM, as our next home. For the past ten years we have enjoyed green chiles and volunteered for several facilities.

How about you? Did you experience a change at retirement, a revelation to change your lifestyle in some way you never anticipated? Whether you have or whether you have not is less important than what is written her. These are my views. Clues to be considered, not hard evidence for every life.
